What the rating means
A MyMovieJam score is a recommendation signal, not an objective truth claim. It reflects the likely quality of the watch experience for the intended audience, especially in a streaming context where attention, mood, and regret matter.
Strong execution, clear audience fit, and easy to recommend confidently.
Worth your night for the right viewer, sometimes with caveats.
May work for a narrow audience, but not a broad recommendation.
A skip unless you have a very specific reason to watch.
How the MyMovieJam score works
Most titles in our ratings catalog carry a MyMovieJam score. This is exactly how it is put together:
- Real viewers we know. Friends and family who have actually watched the title tell us what they thought.
- A check against X. Milind Patil cross-checks that feedback against what people are saying about the title on X (Twitter).
- An editorial call. Milind makes the final call on the number.
Scores are out of 10. When Milind has written his own review of a title on the MyMovieJam blog, the score in that review is his, and it takes priority: the rating card shows the same number and is marked “Review by Milind Patil”. Every other card is marked “MyMovieJam score” and “Edited by Milind Patil”.
We don’t publish how many people fed into each score, because we don’t track a panel size per title. Treat a MyMovieJam score as an honest, informed recommendation, not a statistical average.
What we look at
- Watchability: does it hold attention and deliver on its promise?
- Fit: who is this actually for, and how narrow is that audience?
- Execution: writing, pacing, tone, emotional payoff, and overall craft.
- Streaming value: is this a good use of a night at home versus other options?
Why some scores include caveats
A movie can be decent for one audience and frustrating for another. That is why MyMovieJam often uses verdicts like “recommend with caveats” instead of pretending the same rating means the same thing for everyone.
Apex received a 7.5/10 because the tension and lead performance make it watchable, but the writing is not strong enough for a blanket recommendation.
